Hard work in the forest is often the only way to make a livelihood in rural areas

For every month of 2018, we will be showcasing one of the photos from our 2017 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest, with January dedicated to ‘Hard Work’, taken by Tony Potaš in Slovakia.

In 2017 we held the first ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest. Taking place in 23 countries, we received over 11,000 photos from forests around the world.

From the thousands of photos received, we chose our top 12 images, all of which can be seen here.

For every month of 2018, we will be showcasing one of these photos, with January dedicated to ‘Hard Work’, taken by Tony Potaš in Tatranská Kotlina, Slovakia.

Hard Work

“Close to nature, forestry requires traditional and sensitive approaches,” explained Tony. “Hard work in the forest is often the only way of making a livelihood in rural areas.”

We need to preserve our forests

“Forests are here today, but that does not mean they will be here tomorrow,” Tony continued.

“They need real help and a systematic approach so that their variety, and everything that previous generations left us, remains alive and available, so that future generations will not have to read about them in books.”

“I am therefore grateful for what PEFC does to keep for our children what we inherited.”
