Spending time in a forest fills me with positive energy
6 June 2023 Forests in photos
This June, our photo in the spotlight is ‘Glances’, taken by Levente Bagy in Transylvania, Romania. The images shows two curious owls in a tree.
In our interview, the photographer shared how his photo came about, and how the forest inspires him.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
My professional view on forests is a good one, as I spend a lot of time in their silence, and I constantly look for unique and interesting shots of the woods, birds or animals that can be found in the forests of our neighbourhood.
Personally, spending a few hours in the middle of a forest fills me with positive energy, and inspires my photography. I believe that forests need to be protected and cared for to keep their biodiversity and natural habitats, and because they have a positive impact on our environment.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
In the fall, when the forest is full of colours and offers a true photographic scenery, or in the spring, when nature comes back to life, I spend a lot of time in the forest. On one of my spring walks, I stumbled upon this colony of birds in the forest close to my hometown. The beauty of the forest made me stay and spend more time there.
What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?
The activity of an organization like PEFC is welcome and needed, because this way, we can ensure responsible management of forests and the use of wood as a regenerable resource.
