The 22nd annual conference of WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, saw 350 delegates gather between the 17 and 18 September to discuss and debate the relationship between digital media and printed paper.

As expected, the challenge of digital versus printed media was one of the key issues discussed during the meeting – and despite the rise in digital media, evidence shows that the printed newspaper in India is still strong. This was backed up by keynote speaker Vincent Peyregne, CEO of WAN-IFRA Paris, who declared that “newspapers have never been more important to society than they are now.”

Focusing on the sustainability of newsprint, Day 2 of the Printing Summit saw Michael Buckley open the session dedicated to the environmental impacts of newsprint with a presentation entitled "Purchasing newsprint with a responsibility for environment. What are the environmental benefits of purchasing newsprint that originates from sustainably managed forests?"
