Sustainable landscapes and how they relate to supply chains for food, feed, fiber and fuel is the focus of one of the ‘knowledge blasts’ at the upcoming PEFC Stakeholder Dialogue, taking place on 20 November in Paris, France.
Gary Dunning, Executive Director of The Forests Dialogue, will present his organization’s initiative on Food, Fuel, Fiber and Forests – also known as the 4Fs – during the fourth session of the Dialogue. He will highlight the importance of the landscape approach if we are to benefit from all the goods and services forested landscapes deliver and effectively mitigate the deforestation drivers of palm oil, beef or soya production, especially in tropical forest regions.
The Forests Dialogue’s 4Fs Initiative aims to provide thoughtful leadership, catalyze debate and rally influential stakeholders around the future role and value of forests in relation to food, fuel and fiber. An important role is identifying key issues on land-use, trade and lifestyles that warrant further dialogue to develop effective public policy and supply chain based solutions.
“We are keen to engage supply chain actors including consumer-facing global corporations, public policy-makers working on REDD+, and forest certification organizations like PEFC -to facilitate collective action linking sustainable supply chain demand with sustainable landscape supply,” said Gary Dunning. “Ultimately we are seeking fairer, more sustainable land-use choices by and for all. This Initiative has been an important step in that direction.”
Alongside Gary Dunning, Kathy Abusow, CEO of SFI; Hans Stout, Program Director at IDH; and Sabine Ritter, Executive VP of Sustainability for the Consumer Goods Forum, will all share their knowledge blasts on impactful approaches for sustainable supply chains and brands.
This session is part of PEFC’s 5th Stakeholder Dialogue, which this year is bringing together up to 200 stakeholders to join forces to stimulate demand for sustainable forest products as a way of addressing deforestation.
