FrieslandCampina packaging material sourced from sustainably managed forests

9 May 2014 News

FrieslandCampina, one of the largest dairy companies in the world, intends to source as much of its fiber-based packaging material as possible from forests that have been certified as sustainably managed from now on.

FrieslandCampina contributes in this way to the global promotion of good forest management and safeguards forests for future generations.

To support the implementation of this decision, Royal FrieslandCampina and PEFC Netherlands signed PEFC’s sustainable forest management policy statement on 11 April 2014. FrieslandCampina will use PEFC, along with similar labels, as evidence of responsible and sustainable sourcing.

This decision on packaging procurement is part of the FrieslandCampina commitment to ensure that its agricultural commodities are responsibly sourced and is designed to promote sustainable forest management worldwide. From now on, FrieslandCampina’s packaging will bear either the PEFC or FSC label to provide customers with assurances of responsible sourcing.

FrieslandCampina have used the FSC label on beverage packaging for the Western European market since 2011 and, since 2013, FrieslandCampina has purchased only FSC or PEFC certified cardboard packaging for the Western European market. This policy will now be extended worldwide.
