Our 25th General Assembly saw the PEFC alliance growing, discussing, collaborating and moving forward. But it was also tinted with sadness as it was the last day with PEFC for our Vice Chair, Genevieve Chua.

After ten years in the PEFC International Board of Directors and two years as Vice Chair, she bid farewell to the PEFC family.

Looking back and forward

“Ten years have flown by,” Genevieve remembered during her farewell speech.

“I can still vividly recall my very first PEFC General Assembly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My first impression then was how genuinely all our members from all over the world supported a common cause. How diverse we were and yet united in our purpose.”

“Over the years, I have seen with great pride and satisfaction how PEFC has grown in size and recognition. We don't have it easy and have numerous challenges, yet we punch above our weight,” she continued.

“None of us achieves in isolation and the successes we've enjoyed together have been the result of our mutual cooperation and collaboration.”

“I am truly grateful for the support from the Board, staff and members, and for the friendships forged over time. It has been such a pleasure and privilege working and being with all of you. I take with me many fond memories and impressions which have left an indelible mark on me for years to come.”

A special memory and a bright future

Genevieve received a farewell gift from the PEFC alliance – a certified wooden plaque with the PEFC logo.

“Thank you for this precious memento. It is elliptical in a forward direction because it represents an upward trajectory, which is where I see PEFC heading – onwards and upwards,” she explained.

“Its circularity also has significance as it means our never ending bond with each other. All the very best and a big thank you to all of you. The Board, the staff and my PEFC family.”
