Building Bridges: Connecting Forestry to Construction

In February, the key findings from the Innovative Mapping and Processes to Advance Construction Timber Transparency (IMPACTT) project were published by the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP).
The two-year initiative was designed to bring greater transparency to timber supply chains. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between timber construction and forestry while serving as an early-stage pilot for tracing timber along the supply chain – from forest to finished building.
The findings come at a critical time, as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is set to take effect in December 2025 for large and medium-sized companies, and in June 2026 for micro and small enterprises. A key aspect of the project was exploring how certification schemes, such as PEFC’s, could integrate carbon and biodiversity data into future sustainable forest management and chain-of-custody audits.
Led by ASBP and funded by Built by Nature, the project brought together a coalition of industry leaders committed to responsible timber use. Among the project partners were PEFC UK - our national member for the UK, PEFC international stakeholder member Stora Enso, as well as DoubleHelix, Woodknowledge Wales, Agrodome, Eurban, CEI-Bois, and Timber Development UK.
