Forests are at the heart of society's action to combat climate change and its impacts. As carbon sinks, trees capture and store carbon, removing significant volumes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Forest products meanwhile, provide us with a carbon-neutral alternative to our reliance on fossil fuels.

Designed to address the needs of organizations leading standard setting processes, the Toolkit provides a step-by-step guide to developing a national forest certification system aligned with PEFC’s international requirements. It gives hands-on advice for practitioners, summarizes complex requirements and captures recommendations from PEFC and its existing members who have completed the same process.

2019 is a special year for the PEFC family, as it marks our 20th anniversary. We came back to Würzburg, where the PEFC story began, to celebrate a special anniversary PEFC Week.

As of September 2019, over 325 million hectares of forest area was PEFC certified, and more than 11,800 PEFC Chain of Custody certificates had been issued.
