6 September 2022 Forests in photos

This September, ‘Fallow deer stag’ is our photo in the spotlight. Andrei Lazar, a runner-up in our 2021 PEFC Photo Contest, tells us how this magical photo came about, and why the forest is a special place for him.

How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?

I think that most people are disconnected from nature, which is a place we belong to. For me, the forest is a place where I can easily reconnect with nature.

How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?

I took my photo in a grouse forest where there are many deer. The one in the photo was running in circles with a doe as it was in mating season. It noticed me and looked curiously at me for a few moments after which it continued its game of running in circles.

I was deep in the moment, and I tried to emphasize more the feelings that I felt when I saw this beautiful fallow deer.

What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?

I think these kinds of organisations are needed in the forestry industry if we want to act in a sustainable way in the future to protect our forests.
