Public consultation for new SFI Small Lands Group Certification Module

25 April 2018 PEFC system news

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), one of our PEFC members in North America, has submitted its new SFI Small Lands Group Certification Module for endorsement. Stakeholders globally have until 9 June 2018 to make their comments.

Head to our Online Consultation Tool to give your feedback!

The SFI Small Lands Group Certification Module offers certification of a group of small family forest lands, under one certificate, that are supplying the SFI Program Participant that is certified to the SFI 2015-2019 Fiber Sourcing Standard.

The Small Lands Module takes the burden off the landowner, and instead places it on the organization that has a need for more certified forest content. This approach directly engages small landowners that are interested in growing and selling timber and places added emphasis on accomplishing many land management objectives.

Make sure you read the assessment documentation to find out more.

The PEFC endorsement process

The 60-day global public consultation is a vital part of the PEFC endorsement process. It is your chance to comment and provide feedback on any aspect of the national system.

The PEFC Registered Assessor that carries out the assessment will use the information received from this consultation to help determine the compliance of the national system with our international requirements.

Once the national system has successfully passed the assessment, the PEFC General Assembly votes on its endorsement. A two-thirds majority is required for a system to be endorsed.
