PEFC statement on the Greenpeace Report “How Sinar Mas is Pulping the Planet”

7 July 2010 News

As the world's largest forest certification system, PEFC takes its responsibility towards customers and stakeholders very seriously.

Accusations of a certificate holder being any way in violation of PEFC requirements will be investigated. In this respect PEFC has, over the last few months, asked Greenpeace on several occasions to submit its evidence that APP's certificates are not conforming to PEFC rules, for thorough and independent investigation.

As Greenpeace has chosen not to submit any of the allegations made in its report published yesterday, PEFC has decided to take those sections of the report pertaining to PEFC and have them investigated by SGS South Africa (Pty) Ltd. - Qualifor Programme, the relevant certification body in this case.
