PEFC Sponsors World Conference on Timber Engineering

5 May 2023 Sustainable construction

PEFC is a Silver Sponsor and key supporter of the World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE) 2023, taking place in Oslo, Norway from the 19-22 June 2023.

We are sponsoring this global conference to highlight the importance of PEFC sustainable forest management certification in supplying built environment professionals with the assurances of responsible sourcing.

WCTE is one of the world’s leading forums for presenting the latest scientific, technical and architectural innovations in timber construction and attracts a wide audience of those interested in new thinking.

On Monday, 19 June, Eduardo Rojas Briales, Chair of PEFC International, will explain the central role that mass engineered timber (MET) plays in green building programmes around the world, including its role in helping to deliver many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Eduardo will also discuss the importance of lifecycle assessments and will illustrate the essential role that sustainable forest management and robust chain of custody data has in ensuring forest protection is balanced against the growing demand for timber in construction and building design.

Everyone attending WCTE will have opportunities to take part in a range of pre- and post-conference tour programs designed for participants to explore the various conference-related themes and sites.

PEFC has organised a sold-out forest field trip on 20 June to Oslomarka – a vibrant woodland area surrounding Oslo. We are grateful to Splitkon AS, Norway’s market leader in the manufacture of engineered wood products, for sponsoring the field trip.

The field trip will showcase sustainable forest management and include presentations from top academics. Participants will get first-hand experience of advanced forestry operations and gain up-to-date knowledge on the status of forests locally and globally and how using more timber in construction can help fight climate change.

About WCTE

The conference attracts between 800 and 1,200 participants and is held every other year on a different continent – the last being held in Chile in 2021 – bringing together researchers, engineers, architects, consultants, contractors, project managers, suppliers and manufacturers from across the globe, to discuss the role of timber as an essential material in delivering more sustainably designed buildings and a healthier environment, alongside wider topics of recycling, re-use and the benefits of a circular economy.
