The Dutch National Tree Foundation (Stichting Nationale Boomfeestdag) and PEFC Netherlands are pleased to announce their collaboration in the promotion of sustainable forest management, bringing the importance of trees and forests to the attention of the future generations.
In celebration of this collaboration, Peter Derksen, the Director of the Dutch National Tree Foundation, received the very first copy of the unique PEFC notebook from PEFC Netherlands Chairman Kees Boon. At the back of this brand new notebook are eleven illustrations answering the question “Why Sustainable Forest Management?” This agreement is in line with the theme of the recent PEFC Netherlands annual meeting - Forests for the next generations – at which Peter Derksen was one of the speakers.
The Dutch National Tree Foundation has almost 60 years of experience in bringing children and trees together. One of its many activities includes the organization of a yearly celebration of trees and children, inviting Dutch children to plant their own tree. This year’s celebration will take place on 12 March.
For the Dutch National Tree Foundation and PEFC it is important that people learn and understand early on that it is essential to pay attention to the trees and forests, and that these resources need to be used wisely. Thousands of people will remember the day they planted their tree and where their tree was planted.
Planting trees is a great experience with a lasting impression. To quote Peter Derksen “By educating children to manage forests sustainable they learn early in life that forests are essential for our planet”.
The logical connection between the Dutch National Tree Foundation and PEFC was easily made, PEFC and the Foundation have therefore signed a multi-year partnership. Handing over the first copy of the notebook was the seal of cooperation.
