Join us in Brussels for the first PEFC International EU Policy Conference
11 July 2016 News
Taking place in Brussels on the afternoon of the 21 September, the PEFC EU Policy Conference is dedicated to discussing and debating EU policies and sustainable forestry.
Two years ago we established a permanent presence in Brussels in order to contribute to the EU policy debate on sustainable forestry and related issues, as well as to foster dialogue with our stakeholder community.
Two years later, we are ready to share our expertise in multi-stakeholder processes and to play our part in the building of consensus on sensitive topics. We look forward to seeing you there!
Wood for energy
Split into two parts, the Conference will initially focus on how we ensure the sustainability of wood for energy use in Europe.
Keynote speaker Mr. Jean-Eric Paquet, the Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission, will give a first insight into the results of the consultation organized by the European Commission.
A panel discussion will follow, with representatives from industry, NGOs and national and EU stakeholders. In particular, the debate will focus on the role that sustainable forest management and Chain of Custody certification can play in ensuring the sustainability of wood for energy.
EU FLEGT
Later in the afternoon we will switch focus to the role of sustainable forest management certification within the EU FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade) Action Plan.
Ms. Sheam Satkuru-Granzella, Vice Chair of the PEFC Board of Directors and Director at the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), will present her views on the synergies between certification and the FLEGT Action Plan. This comes in light of the recent evaluation of both the Voluntary Partnership Agreements and the EU Timber Regulation.
This will be followed by a panel discussion gathering representatives from local and international stakeholders, as well as international organizations and NGOs.
Cocktail party
The day will come to a close with a cocktail party, where we can continue our policy discussions from the day. Everyone is invited!
