For the third time, our national member for Slovenia invited professional photographers, amateurs, and everyone who wanted to share their love for the forest to participate in their ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest.

The three winning photos highlight Slovenia’s beautiful forests.

The winner

First place went to Nejc Mrežar’s photo ‘Zadnji sončni žarki’ (Last rays), taken in Migojnice, Slovenia.

“The place on my photo is on my daily walking route. I passed it and looked at it many times and I already had the photo in my mind before I took it. After some months, I decided to take my camera with me to catch the last sun rays,” said the winning photographer.

The runners-up

Janez Tolar came in second with his photo ‘Jaz in jutro’ (Me in the morning), taken in Jelovica in Northern Slovenia.

“On a crisp morning in the midst of a mighty fir forest, the sun, along with the haze, allowed me to take beautiful, extraordinary shots. I used a tripod and a wireless trigger and stepped into the frame myself,” he explained.

Filip Markovič won third prize for his photo ‘Gozdna pravljica’ (A fairy tale forest), taken in Kunč Kočevski rog in Southern Slovenia.

“I took this photo when I saw a magical light shattering between spruce trees while driving along a forest road,” he explained.

Experience Forests, Experience PEFC

Slovenia’s contest was one of 13 national photo contests run by PEFC members. For the third time, we invited photographers and forest lovers to enter their images into the national photo contests.

Besides winning a fantastic national prize, the best photos from the national contests will enter the international contest. The overall winner will be announced in November and will receive a trip to the 2019 PEFC Forest Certification Week in Germany or 2000 CHF.

The top 12 photos will be featured in the 2020 PEFC photo calendar, and exhibited at PEFC Forest Certification Week.
