Hungary achieves PEFC endorsement!

8 June 2017 PEFC system news

“It has been more than 15 years since the first initiative to introduce PEFC forest certification in Hungary was launched. So we are thrilled to have finally achieved this long-awaited endorsement.”

“The latest process was funded and closely supported by the PEFC Collaboration Fund, which was vital to facilitate the co-operation of stakeholders," said Endre Schiberna, Hungarian Forest Certification Non-profit Ltd.

Endorsement just a starting point

“Endorsement is both an objective achieved and a starting point for our further development. Within two years our aim is to have 200,000 hectares of PEFC-certified forest and 50 PEFC Chain of Custody certified companies.”

“As the coordinator of the standard setting process, I would like to thank all the participants for their contribution to this achievement, and express my gratitude to PEFC International for the continuous support,” Mr. Schiberna concluded.

PEFC Collaboration Fund

“It is fantastic to see the Hungarian forest certification system endorsed,” said Ben Gunneberg, CEO of PEFC International, following the announcement.

“Our Collaboration Fund provided financial and technical support for the development of the Hungarian system, so this is a wonderful end to the project and brilliant news for the country’s forest owners who can now demonstrate their sustainable forestry practices through PEFC certification.”

Hungary is the first country whose endorsement can be traced back to seed funding provided through a PEFC Collaboration Fund project.
