“With more than 850 photos entered into our competition, it was hard work for our judges to choose the three winning photos,” said Antonio Brunori, National Secretary of PEFC Italy, as he announced the Italian winners of the ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest.
The first placed image was 'Faggio… tra luce ed ombra' (beech... between light and shade) by Marco Bertolini, taken in the stunning Antola Natural Regional Park in Genoa, Italy.
“Walking through the beautiful woods of the Antola Park, I came across a magnificent specimen of Mucidula mucida (Porcelain Fungus)!” said Mr. Bertolini.
“Typical of sustainable and mature woods, this mushroom grows and develops within the dead beech tree trunks, although it can also be found on oaks and conifers.”
Mr. Bertolini wins a weekend for two in Stenico, a village in Trentino, including participation a photographic workshop.
The runners up
In second place was ‘Prime luci del giorno' (first morning lights) by Stefania Urbini. This beautiful picture features lake Landro in the Tre Cime Nature Park of Northern Italy.
Ms. Urbini wins a PEFC-certified wooden work desk by Palm Design.
‘Autunno nella foresta' (Autumn in the forest) by Marco Bertolini came third, winning a set of handicraft wooden photo frames made by Orsi Cornici.
“I've always loved to hike during the misty autumn days, I like to observe how the woods live after the summer break,” commented Mr. Bertolini.
“The symbol of this rebirth is the fire salamander, a legendary amphibian that with its colors warns the predators of its poison.”
