Children bring colour to the forests in Belgium

17 February 2014 News

Organized in conjunction with the ‘Weekend of the Forest’ in Wallonia and the ‘Week of the Forest’ in Flanders, the colouring competition for kids of up to 12 years old, organized by PEFC Belgium, gave children free reign of their creativity to make our PEFC forests shine brightly.

“It is wonderful to see so many pictures coming from all parts of the country,” said Mieke Vercruijsse, Communication Manager at PEFC Belgium. “Organizing this competition as part of the Week and Weekend of the Forest not only allows us to introduce children to the beauty of forests, but also makes the parents aware of what PEFC stands for.”

Forest museums and educational centres throughout Belgium received copies of a picture of a forest landscape with woodland animals and were asked to invite their young guests to colour it in and participate in the competition.

The entrants were divided into four age categories: 0-3 years, 4-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years. Two winners were chosen from each category, one from the Wallonia region and one from the Flanders region. As a prize for their wonderful pictures, all the winners were awarded a set of PEFC labelled Stabilo colouring pencils.

The winners were:

  • Lauren Van Hove from Hooglede (3 years)
  • Vanille Degueldre from Bossière (3 years)
  • Luan Himat from Bertogne (5 years)
  • Jorunn Depessemier from Aarschot (6 years)
  • Hanaïs Tshibangu-Kaja from Hoeilaart (9 years)
  • Yasmine Meziane from Uccle (8 years)
  • Lies Vica from Bekkenvoort (10 years)
  • Céline Guillaume from Montigny-Le-Tilleul (11 years)
