APEC recognizes PEFC's contribution to preventing illegal logging

PEFC certification provides substantial safeguards to prevent illegal logging, not only through its sustainable forest management requirements, but also through Chain of Custody certification, with its build in Due Diligence System.
This was one of the core messages of Andre Laroze to APEC members, participating the the Expert Working Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade (EGILAT) in Chile on 26 February 2019.
APEC, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, is an intergovernmental forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region, Collectively, they are home to almost 2.2 billion hectares of forest - more than 50% of the total global forest area. APEC economies also engage in a significant amount of trade in forest products. This represents approximately 80 per cent of the international trade in such products.
APEC is commited to combat illegal logging and associate trade and to promote sustainable forest management.
