7 Days to win a trip to Trentino – blog about the Winter Universiade!

4 November 2013 News

The premise is simple: we are looking for a passionate, informed, and talented blogger to report about the green initiatives undertaken during the forthcoming 2013 Winter Universiade, which will take place in Trentino, Italy, from 11 – 20 December 2013.

To get involved, submit a 400 word article or a one minute video explaining why you think it is great that the Winter Universiade commits to a zero emissions target and sources PEFC-certified material. Entries must be received no later than Monday 11 November 2013 (midnight GMT+1).

The Trentino Winter Universiade 2013 is a sporting event with a zero emissions target, according to the ‘Manifesto of Sustainability’ adopted by the Organizing Committee and signed by PEFC Italy and the Consortium of Municipalities of Trentino, in line with the environmental objectives of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

A total of 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions – equivalent to the pollution of 15,000 diesel cars with an annual average mileage of 10,000 km – has been forecasted for the conduct of the various activities during the Games. These emissions will be offset by a number of efficiency and energy saving measures, adopted in Trentino, such as the use of local timber from certified forests for the construction of temporary and permanent structures. In addition, the 26th Universiade will minimize the use of paper wherever possible - with all paper being procured from PEFC-certified sources.

Pier Luigi Ferrari (President of PEFC Italy) and Sergio Anesi (Winter Universiade Organizing Committee) signed a collaboration agreement to share the objectives of the Manifesto of Sustainability, assuming the commitments to be pursued with predefined actions to reduce emissions on a temporary or permanent basis and activities related to the use of wood raw materials from local and PEFC certified souces.

PEFC Italy and PEFC International, in collaboration with the 2013 Winter Universiade Committee, are organizing a press tour from 9 to 11 December 2013. The aim is to promote the ‘green initiatives’ carried out at the 2013 Universiade. The winning blogger will be invited to join the press tour.

All participating journalists will benefit from the availability of a professional cameraman to allow for the production of high quality video material. In addition to exchanging views and opinions with fellow communicators, local PEFC stakeholders will be available for further information and interviews, and a number of meetings with sportsmen and -women, forest owners, wood industries representatives involved in the building construction, as well as Universiade organizers are planned.

You must be 18 or older and a legal resident of a member country of the European Union to enter. The contest will be open until Monday 11 November 2013, and no entries will be accepted after the closing date. The winner will be announced on Tuesday 12 November 2013. You must be able to travel to Trentino, Italy to participate in the press tour from 9-11 December 2013.

Here’s a quick summary of what the winner will receive:
