Lamipak: leading the charge in sustainable packaging with PEFC certification

22 July 2024 Packaging

As a manufacturer of paper-based packaging, Lamipak recognises the need to safeguard the environment and promote sustainability. To achieve its sustainability objectives, Lamipak turned to PEFC certification.

Lamipak, a prominent producer of high-quality aseptic packaging, is dedicated to providing top-tier solutions to customers across more than 70 countries. Since its inception in 2007, Lamipak has rapidly evolved into a leading provider of aseptic packaging solutions.

With a strong focus on sustainability, Lamipak actively incorporates PEFC-certified materials into its packaging, reinforcing its commitment to responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship.

The company aims to adopt a circular economy approach, which focuses on eliminating waste and optimising the use of finite resources. This vision drives Lamipaks goal to integrate sustainability into every aspect of its operations, from sourcing to manufacturing.

"Our vision is focused on creating a world that is greener and healthier, where sustainability is at the forefront, from sourcing to manufacturing," explained Ahmad Rizalmi, from Lamipak.

The solution: PEFC certification

The decision to pursue PEFC certification was driven by the increasing demand from customers and partners for proof of sustainable practices. PEFC certification ensures that Lamipaks sourcing practices meet international sustainability standards, providing a credible assurance of responsible forest management.

PEFC certification has significantly benefited Lamipak, contributing to its sustainability goals in several key ways:

  1. Enhanced Credibility and Trust: PEFC certification has boosted Lamipaks credibility with customers and stakeholders by demonstrating its commitment to sustainable forest management and responsible sourcing. This has helped build trust and strengthen the companys brand reputation.
  2. Market Access and Competitive Advantage: The certification has opened up new markets and business opportunities, particularly with clients and partners who prioritise sustainability. It has given Lamipak a competitive edge in the marketplace, distinguishing its products as environmentally responsible.
  3. Compliance and Risk Management: By adhering to PEFC standards, Lamipak ensures compliance with international environmental regulations and reduces the risk of supply chain disruptions. This proactive approach to sustainability helps mitigate risks associated with deforestation and illegal logging.

Implementation and experience with PEFC

Lamipaks journey with PEFC began through its headquarters in Kunshan, China, which is already PEFC certified. The Indonesian team was introduced to PEFC by Arie Putra, Market Engagement Manager for PEFC in Indonesia.

Through a series of discussions, meetings, and training sessions held by PEFC and IFCC (the PEFC national member in Indonesia), Lamipaks wider team, including members from the QA/QC Division, Sales and Marketing Division, and Certification Division, gained a comprehensive understanding of PEFCs role in promoting sustainable forest management.

Lamipak officially obtained its PEFC chain of custody certificate on 29 April 2024. This certification process underscored the companys commitment to sustainability and provided the tools needed to meet market expectations and enhance product appeal.
