Chain of custody & EUDR initial training: Japan

Auditor training

Auditors, reviewers, and certification decision makers are invited to register for a PEFC recognised chain of custody initial training on 20-21 August 2025, followed by an EUDR DDS training on 22 August 2025.

Attending a PEFC recognised chain of custody initial training is a pre-requisite for an auditor wishing to issue certification against the PEFC chain of custody related standards, as required by PEFC ST 2003.

The details

The two-day initial training takes place online, 9:25-18:00, 20 August and 9:30-18:00, 21 August, followed by a four-hour EUDR DDS training, 10:00-14:15 22 August. The timings are all in JST.

The training will provide an introduction to the 2020 PEFC Chain of Custody standard, covering the scope and management system, input-output process, the PEFC Due Diligence System (DDS), the chain of custody methods, and multi-site certification. 

It will also cover the 2020 PEFC Trademarks standard and 2020 Certification Body Requirements standard.

In addition, the EUDR DDS training will equip auditors with the knowledge they need to help companies transition to the new PEFC EUDR Due Diligence System, PEFC ST 2002-1:2024, a pathway to EUDR alignment.

Before the training, participants are expected to read the related PEFC standards. Participants will also be provided with case studies in advance of the training and will need to provide their answers to the trainers.

The training will be given by PEFC International Technical Experts Tatsuya Kajiya, Shigeru Takahara, Makiko Horio and will be held in Japanese.

The participation fee for the training is 50,000/certification body Japanese Yen + 100 CHF (equivalent Japanese Yen/Trainee). The registration deadline is 18 July.

Knowledge test

Following the training, participants will have three weeks to complete the online knowledge test. Participants that pass this test will receive a PEFC recognised chain of custody training certificate within two weeks. Successful participants will also be added to the PEFC register of trained auditors, reviewers, and certification decision makers.
