Brian is Chief Sustainability Officer with Hancock Natural Resource Group, directing the global stewardship program, development of policies and environmental compliance mechanisms and government relations.
Brian directs Hancock’s global stewardship program, development of policies and environmental compliance mechanisms, and government relations. Prior to his employment with Hancock Natural Resource Group, Brian worked at Forest Capital Partners and Boise Cascade Corporation for a combined 20 years, where he was responsible for a variety of programs including forest certification, forest policy, government affairs, public relations, conservation transactions, and ecology support.
Brian earned a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Management from South Dakota State University and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology from Michigan State University. He is a Certified Wildlife Biologist which is accredited by The Wildlife Society.
Brian chaired the SFI Resources Committee and provided leadership during the SFI 2015-2019 Standard revision as well as oversight during SFI’s PEFC extraordinary assessment. Brian is also past Chairman of the Operating Committee of the National Alliance of Forest Owners, is on the Board of Governors of the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI), is a member of the Technical Working Group for the Climate Bond Initiative’s Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use Expert Group, is a past committee member on the Forest Carbon Standards Committee, and served on the Roundtable on Sustainable Forests.
