PEFC logoWho we are

PEFC, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification.

We are an umbrella organization that endorses national forest certification systems developed collaboratively by all interested stakeholders and tailored to local priorities and conditions. Each national forest certification system undergoes rigorous third party assessment against PEFC's unique Sustainability Benchmarks.

These Benchmarks set best practice requirements for forest management, making PEFC the leading forest certification system globally. With over 300 million hectares of forest certified to PEFC globally, we are the world's largest forest certification system.

Today, we have 49 national members, 30 international stakeholders such as civil society organizations, businesses, government entities and intergovernmental bodies and 5 extraordinary members. Hopefully you met many of us at the Stakeholder Dialogue!
