National Members

National members (or "National Governing Bodies") are independent, national organizations established to develop and implement a PEFC system within their country.

New Zealand Forest Certification Association Inc. (NZFCA)

With 9.5 million hectares of forest – 7.8 million hectares natural and 1.7 million hectares plantation – more than one third of New Zealand is covered in forest. Forestry plays an important role within the country, with forests making up 3% of New Zealand’s GDP and about 17,000 employees and their families dependent on this sector.

Organization Information

In early September 2014, the New Zealand Wood Council took the decision to establish an entity that could gain recognition from PEFC as the National Governing Body for New Zealand. One month later, NZFCA was established, following support commited by various companies and associations.

NZFCA was incorporated under the New Zealand Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on 20th October 2014.

Key documentation

Endorsement milestones

To maintain its PEFC endorsement, the system must meet specific endorsement milestones. The first milestone is the start of the periodic review within five years of the national approval of the sustainable forest management standard.
