The third in a series of workshops aimed at gathering stakeholder input for the revision of PEFC's International Chain of Custody will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on 7th July 2009. The Chain of Custody is an important element in forest certification as it establishes a verifiable link from the certified forest to the final product.
"PEFC's Chain of Custody provides credible evidence of the legality and sustainability of wood products, and given the Japanese objective of eliminating imports of illegally logged timber by 2010, this workshop is very timely," says Haruyoshi Takeuchi, Director of the PEFC Asia Promotions Initiative, Japan.
"Japanese companies that have already earned certification are excited about the opportunities their responsible procurement policy offers and welcome the chance to provide feedback and comments within this revision process based on their experiences."
PEFC expects representative from NGO's, procurement professionals from both business and governments, certification and accreditation bodies, and consultants from Japan and East Asia to attend the workshop.
